New Jersey Folk Festival
As the former Co-Director of the New Jersey Folk Festival at Rutgers University, I led a team of students in internship courses that planned and produce the festival as part of the Department of American Studies. The festival was founded in 1975 and was a pillar of the larger Rutgers Day celebrations on campus alongside Ag Field Day. The festival highlighted arts and creativity of the many cultural groups that make New Jersey and the surrounding regions their home.
The festival is no longer a project of the Department of American Studies, and I have stepped down as co-director. I am incredibly proud of the work our team did on the festival through a very challenging time between 2019-2024. I am developing new projects in the Department of American Studies that will continue to highlight folk art, folk music, and provide student experiences in public arts and humanities. New Jersey Folk Podcast
The New Jersey Folk Festival created a podcast. This ongoing project emerged during the pandemic as a way to engage with artists and audiences remotely, but it continues to grow. Visit https://www.njfolkfest.org/podcast/ to listen to our first season. Produced by students, faculty, and community members.
